The UK has been gripped by anti-immigration riots since a 17-year-old boy of foreign origin attacked a dance school in Southport on July 29, killing three girls. At least two hotels housing asylum seekers have been targeted. 378 rioters have been arrested in a week.

Rioters arming themselves with whatever they can find. Here, wooden fences, there, barriers thrown at the police officers who are trying to block access to a hotel hosting asylum seekers near Manchester, in vain. The British police are overwhelmed by the number of rioters. The face-offs with the demonstrators are increasingly tense.

The trigger: a deadly knife attack in which three young girls died last week. The suspect: a British man born to Rwandan parents. Since then, calls for violence, particularly against mosques, have multiplied. The police have already made nearly 400 arrests. Faced with the escalation of violence, encouraged and organized on social networks, Prime Minister Keir Starmer has promised a firm response.
