United Kingdom | Authorities under pressure after new violent clashes

(London) Keir Starmer’s Labour government is trying to convince people on Sunday of its ability to stem violent far-right protests after a new day of clashes on Saturday in several cities across the country, which led to nearly a hundred arrests.

Sometimes targeting mosques or places where asylum seekers are housed, the gatherings began after rumours spread on social media, relayed by far-right influencers, about the nationality and religion of the alleged attacker who killed three girls on Monday in the town of Southport in northwest England.

Rallies are still planned for Sunday.

On Saturday, the demonstrations organised in several dozen towns degenerated in many places, notably in Liverpool (North-West), Hull (North-East), Belfast (Northern Ireland) and Leeds (North).
