The Beijing Olympics record is going to be broken. In 2008, the French team won 43 medals, including seven gold, its best haul since the end of the Second World War. It will do better in Paris. The Tricolores have, on Sunday August 4, 41 medals, including 12 titles, and are assured of having three more since the boxers. Bilal Bennama (51 kg) will compete in the final while Sofiane Oumiha (63.5 kg) and Djamili-Dini Aboudou Moindze (-92 kg), have qualified for the semi-finals which assures them at least the bronze. Sunday’s program. The afternoon promises to be busy: after the boxing semi-finals of Billal Bennama and Soofiane Oumiha, Baptiste Addis will play for his place in the semi-finals of the archery event (1:26 p.m.). Then Félix Lebrun will play his last match, for a bronze medal (1:30 p.m.). Also to follow are the rings final, in gymnastics with Samir Aït Saïd from 3 p.m. or the last race of Léon Marchand with the 4X100 medley relay (7:12 p.m.). At least one French boxer in the final. Billal Bennama will fight for gold! The Frenchman won his -51kg semi-final on the wire, Sunday, against the Dominican boxer Yunior Alcantara Reyes. Despite an injury to the arcade, he managed to win on points 29-28. Sofiane Oumiha will also try to invite himself to the final against the Canadian Wyatt Sanford.
A French archer in the quarter-finals. Baptiste Addis can still hope for an individual medal after winning silver in the team event. He qualified for the quarter-finals of the event and will face at 1:26 p.m. to the German Florian Unruh.
It works for Alice Finot and Sasha Zhoya. Sasha Zhoya, who came third in her heat, qualified for the semi-finals of the 100m hurdles. The other two Frenchmen, Wilhem Belocian and Raphaël Mohamed, will run in repechage. Earlier in the morning, 3000m steeplechase specialist Alice Finot qualified for the final of the event.
Handball, basketball, volleyball… Team sports to follow. At 1 p.m., the French volleyball players will face the United States. At 4 p.m., the French handball players are mainly playing for their qualification for the quarter-finals against Hungary. A draw will be enough for them to finish fourth in their group. At 9 p.m., the French basketball players will face Australia to try to finish top of their group.
A dream final at Roland-Garros. LOlympic gold will be played out on Sunday between the Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, recent winner on the clay courts of the Porte d’Auteuil (then at Wimbledon), and Novak Djokovic. Until now, the Serb, the most successful player in the history of Grand Slam (24 victories), has only brought home bronze, in 2008 in Beijing. He has made the gold medal one of the last great challenges of his immense career.
