Canada | Car sales rebound in July

(Toronto) Auto industry consulting firm DesRosiers says July sales rebounded after stagnating a month earlier when dealers were grappling with a major software outage.

The consulting firm estimates that Canadian light vehicle sales in July were up 11% from 2023 levels.

The organization adds that a year-over-year increase in sales was expected, as July 2023 was not a good month for vehicle sales.

DesRosiers says overall sales came in at 161,000 units, which is still significantly lower than pre-pandemic numbers, when typical sales were between 170,000 and 185,000 units.

Andrew King, managing partner at DesRosiers, points out that July performance varied considerably among automakers, with some seeing sales declines while others saw increases.

DesRosiers says she will be closely monitoring August sales for signs of stability in the market.
