The Democratic Party convention is now a formality. US Vice President Kamala Harris is now assured of becoming her party’s nominee for president in November, after garnering the support of more than half of the delegates in an online vote on Friday, August 2.

The Vice President said: “honored” to have passed this threshold before the vote closes on Monday to succeed Democratic President Joe Biden, who will not run for a second term in the presidential election against Donald Trump. The 50-year-old will formally accept this nomination at the Democratic convention, scheduled for Chicago, in mid-August.

The Democratic candidate’s team also “raised $310 million (284 million euros) in July, the largest collection for the 2024 election”according to a press release published on Friday. This fundraising was “fueled by the best month of fundraising from small donors in presidential history” American, and represents “more than double” of what Donald Trump’s campaign raised in the same month.

“One of the best decisions I made was choosing Kamala Harris as my vice president.”Joe Biden said on the X network. “Now that she is going to be our party’s candidate, I couldn’t be more proud.”
