In Seine-et-Marne, residents of a commune feared damage caused by the force of the water during the night of Thursday 1 to Friday 2 August. Storms also wreaked havoc in the Vosges, where up to 100 mm of rain fell.

An entire section of a house collapsed, a barn completely destroyed… In Sablionnières, in Seine-et-Marne, on Friday August 2, rescuers-clearers try to clear the piles of rubble in a street. The torrent was so powerful that it lifted the roadway in places. A woman and her husband escaped the worst, as the river burst its banks. “Thisaa devastated everything” explains the husband, pointing to a collapsed wall. His garage is under water.

In the Vosges, up to 100 mm of rain fell during the night from Thursday to Friday. A farmer struggled to save his cows threatened by the rising waters.The animals are up to their bellies in water (…), it’s a terrible thing to experience“, he explains. A little further on, a retirement home had to be hastily evacuated. The residents were knee-deep in water. In a garden centre, everything was destroyed, a ton of animal food had to be thrown away.
