Sergei Prokofiev, Symphony No. 6

Another case of great interest related to online streaming platforms is the Cleveland Orchestra, which we spoke highly of in a recent article on the famous American “Big 5”. Despite its extraordinary quality, this orchestra has almost disappeared from the radar, at least in physical discs, since it self-publishes and performs in the United States, a country that considers that the CD market no longer exists. Franz Welser-Möst, who will leave the orchestra in 2027, is currently producing a dematerialized Prokofiev complete collection. The orchestra can publish the symphonies in this way, one by one, without worrying, for the Sixth (41 minutes), a coupling necessary to fill an 80-minute CD. This 6e Symphony which follows the No. 2, 3 and 5 has been available since July 5th. If there is confusion about the “release” date, it is because for three months (from April 4th to July 5th), it was available exclusively on Apple Classical. Here it is, universally accessible, and one can only savor the joy of such orchestral luxury, more finely captured than in Berlin.
