The queen of gymnastics is the boss at Bercy. Simone Biles won her sixth Olympic title in the women’s individual all-around competition on Thursday, August 1, in an Arena that was totally behind her cause. The star of the discipline definitively took the lead in the general classification after her performance on the beam, before confirming her position during a floor performance that was simply breathtaking, both in terms of its difficulty and execution. Her main competitor, the Brazilian, Rebeca Andrade, finished second and her compatriot, Sunisa Lee, completed the podium.

The 27-year-old American was under pressure. In her group, in addition to the two other medallists, she also had to battle with the Italians Alice D’Amato, Manila Esposito, and the former hopeful of French gymnastics now representing Algeria, Kaylia Nemour.

After the vault, the suspense was still intact, despite a score of 15.766 obtained by Simone Biles. Her passage on the uneven bars put her in some difficulty, penalized after her feet touched the ground. Ranked behind her main competitor, Rebeca Andrade, and Kaylia Nemour, the Texan was in third place in the ranking before launching herself on the beam. Her performance, despite a few slight imbalances, put the pressure back on her opponents.

At the end of this performance, the GOAT of gymnastics also moved up to first place in the general ranking, distancing Rebeca Andrade by just 0.166 points. But since the floor, along with the vault, is the apparatus of choice for the four-time Olympic medalist in Rio, the gold medal was once again within her grasp, after having already won it as a team during these Parisian Games.

Paris 2024 – Gymnastics: Simon Biles makes a small mistake on the bars

Paris 2024 is already a historic Olympic edition for the world of gymnastics since with six gold medals, Simone Biles erases Nadia Comaneci’s five medals.

But it is also an important step for the 1.42-meter champion who is thus definitively turning the page on her trauma from Tokyo. The American superstar has not finished making headlines at these Games: she is still in the running for three other finals, on Saturday, on the vault and on Monday, on the floor and beam.
