Summer McIntosh won the gold medal in the 200m butterfly on Thursday at the Paris Olympics.
She clocked a time of 2 min 03.03 s, a new Olympic record for the distance.
American Regan Smith took silver (2 min 03.84 s), while Chinese Yufei Zhang (2 min 05.09 s) completed the podium.
This is the third medal at these Games for the 17-year-old swimmer, a first in the same Olympics in Canadian history. The young prodigy had already won gold in the 400m individual medley, as well as silver, her first Olympic award, in the 400m freestyle.
McIntosh became the third female swimmer representing the Canadian flag to win two gold medals, after George Hodgson in 1972 and Alex Baumann in 1984.
His mother, Jill Horstead, competed in the 200m butterfly at the 1984 Games.
And it’s not over for the Canadian sensation of the Paris Olympics: around 4 p.m. this Thursday, she will participate in the 4 x 100 meter relay alongside Mary-Sophie Harvey, Ella Jansen and Julie Brousseau.
She will also be in the 200m medley, just like her compatriot Sydney Pickrem, on Friday morning.
