A recent semi-finalist at Wimbledon, Musetti will face in the last four the winner of the quarter-final in the evening between the Serb Novak Djokovic and the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas.

Three years after his Olympic victory in Tokyo, where he beat Russian Karen Khachanov in the final, Zverev will not taste a medal again.

He lost in the Roland-Garros final last June to the Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, who for his part qualified for the last four of the Olympic Games at the expense of the American Tommy Paul (6-3, 7-6).

Zverev’s elimination is the second surprise of the day on the Parisian clay after that of Polish world number one Iga Swiatek in the semi-final of the women’s tournament.
