The end of the summer soap opera. The Professional Football League (LFP) confirmed on Thursday, August 1, that it had reached agreements with the British platform DAZN and the Qatari channel beIN Sports for the broadcasting rights of Ligue 1 for the period 2024-2029, putting an end to an interminable wait for their allocation.

“Starting on August 16 and for the next five seasons, DAZN will broadcast eight Ligue 1 McDonald’s matches, live and exclusively, on each matchday, as well as the Champions Trophy and the play-off matches. For its part, beIN Sports will offer live and exclusive coverage of one match on each matchday of the championship.”has wrote the body in a press release.

Two weeks before the start of the Ligue 1 season, this case has finally come to a conclusion. It remained to determine the date of the poster broadcast by beIN Sports, which also has the rights to Ligue 2 on Saturdays and does not want any overlap between its matches. The Qatari channel will broadcast the Ligue 1 match on Saturday at 5 p.m. and the League will therefore have to reschedule the Ligue 2 matches scheduled for that time.

Last Thursday, the LFP Board of Directors (CA) approved DAZN’s offer for an average of €400 million per year, with an exit clause planned after two years if the threshold of 1.5 million subscribers is not reached. The same CA approved beIN’s offer on Wednesday, which plans to pay 80% of the €100 million per year promised to the League, with it then responsible for distributing it among the clubs. The remaining 20% would be paid directly by Qatari sponsors to the clubs.

DAZN, a newcomer to the French audiovisual market, will offer a monthly subscription of 29.99 euros for all the matches it broadcasts. “The negotiations were intense because we wanted to reach agreements that would meet the interests of all clubs and that would allow French football to continue its development and increase its attractiveness,” stressed in the press release Vincent Labrune, the president of the LFP, on the front line in these negotiations. The French championship resumes on the weekend of August 17 and 18.
