Discover Old Montreal in the company of a ghost

The summer season is in full swing in Montreal, which welcomes approximately 11 million visitors each year. Whether they come from abroad, a neighboring province or even Quebec, many of them take part in guided tours to discover the metropolis. Artisans from “Le Devoir” have also joined in the fun to make you want to (re)discover Montreal from a different perspective.

At nightfall, what gloomy stories roam the streets of Old Montreal? Fantômes Montréal offers a 90-minute walking tour where different legends meet “all based on true stories. After that, the percentage of what is true,” no one knows, confides Odile, ghost guide.

Odile, “accompanying ghost” listens to the ghost of Place d’Youville.

During the visit, she reveals in particular the tale of the predecessor of the legendary Seven-Hour Man. A certain vagabond Cossette is said to have drowned in the 19th centurye century in a canal located near the public market on Place D’Youville. It is said that his spirit still haunts the place, and that on certain evenings, he can be heard banging against the metal grate of the manhole on the corner of Rue Saint-François-Xavier and Place D’Youville.

Six unusual legends related to historical events, sometimes significant, sometimes unknown, are told to visitors during the tour. An original activity to discover (or rediscover) Old Montreal, where every street corner seems to whisper its own ghost story.
