Arrest of Megan Lalonde, the fake lawyer

Megan Lalonde, known as the “fake real lawyer prefect of Quebec” on social media, appeared in court Wednesday after being arrested the day before. Summary of this colorful saga.


Megan Lalonde was arrested on Tuesday by Blainville police. She was the subject of an arrest warrant for failing to appear in court in a fraud case.

The 24-year-old woman finally appeared in court the next day and is now charged with fraud of more than $5,000.

The facts would be produced on August 18, 2023 in Drummondville. She will be back in court on August 21 in Victoriaville and in September in Gatineau in connection with other fraud cases.

Criticized by the Bar

Megan Lalonde became known to the general public last April. She offered her services as a lawyer on TikTok and Instagram. The problem? Ms. Lalonde is not and has never been authorized to practice law. Furthermore, contrary to what she claims, Megan Lalonde has never been suspended by the Syndic of the Bar or by the Disciplinary Council of the Barreau du Québec since she has never been a member of the Barreau du Québec.

The investigation by the Quebec Bar was initiated following several complaints from victims defrauded by the false lawyer.

On May 3, the professional order issued a notice of violation to the alleged forger, including the charge of presenting herself as a lawyer without ever being a member in good standing of the Bar. She was also fined $7,500 in connection with this case.

The professional body aiming to supervise the profession had also invited potential victims of Megan Lalonde to file a complaint with the police authorities.

His modus operandi for deceiving his victims was first revealed by an investigation by the Montreal Journal then articles from The PressThe fake criminal lawyer asked her potential clients for a cash deposit with the promise of representing them. She then ran away without returning the money paid.

The Blainville woman is currently accused of fraud and of failing to appear in court in six separate cases.

She previously pleaded guilty to fraud charges in June and September 2022 and in February and July last year.

From Megan Lalonde to Megan Fullum

Megan Lalonde continued to be active on social media until very recently despite the media coverage of the accusations and the arrest warrant issued against her.

She has at times mocked the reports and the actions of the bar in her social media posts, where she has continued to claim to be a lawyer.

On the TikTok platform, she now presents herself as “Megan Fullum.” The mention of “fake lawyer prefect of Quebec” is not present in the description on this account.

However, she refers in some publications to the media coverage of the accusations against her.

Mme Lalonde has also attracted public attention for his frequent use of filters and applications aimed at changing his physical appearance in his photos published on social networks.
