Three disciplines for twice the happiness: the French triathlon won a medal, and of the finest metal, in the first race, thanks to Cassandre Beaugrand, Olympic champion of the women’s race, on Wednesday July 31. Julie Derron and Beth Potter completed the podium. Emma Lombardi failed in 4th place, only 6 seconds from the podium.
In an atmosphere as exceptional as the setting, and despite a road soaked by rain (which stopped a few minutes before the start), the Frenchwoman made the difference in the running race (10 km), after having negotiated the swimming (1,500 m) and then the cycling (40 km) well. After the bronze in the mixed relay in Tokyo, this is the first individual medal in the history of French triathlon at the Games.
