Most of the temporary stands are not shaded and some events organized on Tuesday afternoon will be particularly exposed to the heat (women’s rugby 7s semi-finals, field hockey qualifiers, beach volleyball and 3×3 basketball preliminary rounds, BMX freestyle qualifiers, etc.). The athletes “are used to”stressed the Minister Delegate for Health, Frédéric Valletoux, on BFMTV, inviting spectators to stay well hydrated.

For spectators, the Ile-de-France Region announced on Monday the activation of the heatwave plan, with distribution of water and hats. The Ile-de-France Mobilités (IDFM) transport authority has for its part deployed unprecedented means from Monday to cool down travelers. It plans to distribute 2.5 million water briquettes in 74 stations and stations. Water fountains are also installed in 94 points of the network, “including 90% of the stations serving the Olympic sites”.

Since the 19th century, the Earth’s average temperature warmed by 1.1°C. Scientists have established with certainty that this increase is due to human activities, consumers of fossil fuels (coal, oil and gas). This warming, unprecedented in its speed, threatens the future of our societies and biodiversity. But solutions – renewable energies, moderation, reduction of meat consumption – exist.
