A day after Pauline Ferrand-Prévôt’s victory in the women’s race, Victor Koretzky brought home a second Olympic medal for French mountain biking by winning silver at the end of a crazy race in which he came close to taking gold on Monday.

The Elancourt hill course is a success for the French. After Pauline Ferrand-Prévôt’s gold medal in the women’s event, Victor Koretzky won the silver medal on Monday 29 July. The 29-year-old from Narbonne, one of the favourites for victory, fought a merciless duel with Tom Pidcock. However, the reigning Olympic champion seemed out of the competition after two laps.

The Briton had a puncture, lost a lot of time, but did not give up. Alone in the lead, Victor Koretzky never managed to break away and was under pressure from the pursuers, including the return of Tom Pidcock. Despite an attack in the final meters, Victor Koretzky was overtaken before the final straight. Tom Pidcock thus retained his Olympic title. The other Frenchman, Jordan Sarrou, reigning French cross-country champion, finished 14th, more than two minutes behind the medalists.
