Third official day of the Paris Olympic Games and a new busy program. On the menu, Monday July 29, team sports, but also French chances of individual medals. French fencers will indeed be in the running, as will judoka Sarah-Léonie Cysique. The Djokovic-Nadal duel will indeed take place. We take a look at the events not to be missed.

The three events not to be missed: fencing, horse riding, skateboarding

The sport that has brought the most medals to France in the history of the Olympic Games, fencing will once again be in the spotlight. Fifth in Tokyo, Enzo Lefort can claim a podium in foil (from 12:05 announced on France 2). On the women’s sabre side, Sara Balzer, world number 2, Manon Apithy-Brunet and Cécilia Berder will also be at the Grand Palais to experience their Games on home soil from 10:25 (announced on France 2).

In the sumptuous setting of the Palace of Versailles, equestrian sports with the team eventing competition will also be worth a visit (from 11 a.m., announced on France 5). Bronze medalists in 2021, the French riders can aim for a new podium.

Initially scheduled for Saturday, July 27, the men’s street skateboarding event was postponed to this Monday (from 12 noon, announced on the digital channel Paris 2024 and France 5) due to the rain, which fell continuously from Friday afternoon, throughout the opening ceremony and the following night. Aurélien Giraud, Vincent Milou and Joseph Garbaccio, the three French players involved, represent medal chances for the French delegation.

French people to follow: Cysique, the basketball players and Oumiha

Judoka Sarah Léonie-Cysique (from 10am, announced on France 2), Olympic vice-champion in Tokyo in under 57 kg, has the opportunity to win her first individual gold medal on the Parisian tatamis.

In basketball, the French women’s team, 3rd in Tokyo, begins its tournament (at 5:15 p.m. announced on France 3) against the Canadians, fourth in the last World Cup. The two teams had already faced each other in group play during this competition in 2022, for a defeat of the French (59-45).

On the boxing side, Rio Olympic vice-champion Sofiane Oumiha enters the competition (at 4:02 p.m., announced on France 2) in the round of 16. The under 63.5 kg fighter was exempted from the first round thanks to his seeded status.

A Djokovic-Nadal duel on the agenda today

While the group matches continue in team sports, many French and international stars have the opportunity to win their first medal in individual sports. In mountain biking (2:10 p.m., announced on France 2), the British Tom Pidcock, reigning Olympic champion, is the favorite to succeed him in the absence of Wout van Aert and Mathieu van der Poel. The French Victor Koretzky could take advantage of this to get on the podium, he who won the test event on the Elancourt hill last year. In tennis, the announced duel between Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal will indeed take place on the Philippe-Chatrier court (2nd match from 12 p.m., announced on France 3).
