.
(France TV)

Léon Marchand fully assumed his status as favourite on Sunday by winning his first Olympic title.

A gold still full of promise. Léon Marchand won the final of the 400m medley, Sunday July 28, at Paris La Défense Arenawinning a first Olympic title that could open a long series. Expected to be the leader of French swimming, the young swimmer (22 years old) responded to his first Olympic meeting at home, pushing back the Japanese Tomoyuki Matsushita and the American Carson Foster, respectively second and third, by more than five seconds.

Undisputed boss of the distance since his world record (4’02”50) at the World Championships in Fukuoka (Japan) in 2023, dethroning Michael Phelps, Léon Marchand has once again overtaken the sacred monster, breaking the Olympic record, now lowered to 4’02”95. Enough to hope for several more medals in the 200m butterfly, 200m breaststroke and 200m medley next week, not to mention the relays.
