The party was in full swing. The terrace of a multi-purpose hall collapsed during a wedding in Saint-Pierre, in Cantal, killing one person and injuring four others on Saturday, July 27, the department’s prefecture announced. The event brought together “a hundred people”according to the same source, which specifies that the four injured were taken care of as an absolute emergency. Thirty-five other people were more lightly injured.
According to information from France Bleu Pays d’Auvergne, it was around 6:15 p.m. when this 100 square meter wooden terrace gave way while guests were on it.
“A large rescue force including firefighters, police and civil protection was quickly dispatched to the scene to take care of the victims,” with “four helicopters, 20 vehicles, 57 firefighters” and reinforcements from Corrèze and Puy-de-Dôme, the prefecture said.
The prefect of Cantal has triggered the Orsec plan. The white plan has also been activated in the hospitals of Mauriac and Aurillac, where the injured are being treated. A medical-psychological emergency unit has been set up to support the victims and witnesses of this tragedy.
