A successful start for Spain’s star duo. Competing together in doubles in the Olympic tennis tournament, Spanish legend Rafael Nadal, torchbearer on Friday at the opening ceremony, and his worthy successor Carlos Alcaraz, won their first match on Saturday, July 27, on the clay courts of Roland-Garros.

For their first appearance together in competition, the two men experienced a tight first set against the Argentinians Maximo Gonzalez and Andrés Molteni, doubles specialists and number six seed in the tournament. Winners of the first set in the tie-break (7-4), the Spaniards were broken early in the second. Quickly trailing 3-0, the two men, who have 26 Grand Slam titles between them, were able to raise their level of play, to finally win in two sets (7-6, 6-4).
