A complaint has been filed against Canada during the 2022 CONCACAF Women’s Championship, alleging that the Canadian women’s team used a drone to watch a rival country’s training session.
CONCACAF confirmed that the complaint had been filed against Canada by the rival federation, but said it had not yielded any results.
The federation in question, presumably Panamanian, made this allegation after seeing a drone that did not belong to it during a training session.
“She suspected it was Canada,” a CONCACAF spokesman said.
Canada Soccer denied any involvement when contacted by CONCACAF, which covers North America, Central America and the Caribbean.
Due to lack of evidence, the complaint was not brought before the CONCACAF disciplinary commission.
The Canadians beat Panama 1-0 in the group stage – on July 8, 2022 – and finished second behind the United States in the eight-team tournament, which served as a qualifier for the Women’s World Cup.
Canada, which lost 1-0 in the final in Monterrey, won the tournament’s fair play award.
