Celine Dion overcomes illness and sings at Paris Olympics

Celine Dion, absent from the stage since 2020, overcame a paralyzing illness to perform Edith Piaf’s “Hymn to Love” on the first floor of the Eiffel Tower during the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics on Friday.

The 56-year-old Quebecer had already performed at the opening of the Atlanta Olympics in 1996.

Few imagined her in Paris when they watched the shocking passage of the recent documentary “I am: Celine Dion”, where she appears shaken by spasms, overcome by pain, in the middle of a crisis.

Stiff Person Syndrome (SPS), a rare neurological condition with no known cure, has forced her to abandon tours and residency concerts in recent years.

But between the manifestations of this evil, the artist can lead a normal life.

The diva has a special connection with France, where she exploded with the album “D’eux” (1995), written by the French composer Jean-Jacques Goldman.

In 1997, the planet succumbed to “My heart will go on”, on the soundtrack of the blockbuster “Titanic” by James Cameron.
