Glass falls from tower in downtown Montreal

Glass fragments fell from a skyscraper under construction in the Quatier des Spectacles on Thursday evening, forcing the closure of Rue De Bleury.

A window of the Maestria, a real estate project of Devimco, broke for an unknown reason.

“The interior window of the unit remained intact and no one was injured during the incident. Rue de Bleury is now reopened to traffic,” said Justin Meloche, in charge of media relations for Devimco. “We are currently conducting an investigation to determine the nature of the incident and are taking all necessary measures to prevent this from happening again.”

The SPVM confirmed that it closed rue de Bleury for several hours Thursday evening.

At Nyk’s Bistro-Pub, right next to the Maestria, an employee explained to The Press that the evening had been ruined by this event. The terrace had to be evacuated and customers could no longer access the establishment from the middle of the evening. The employee refused to identify herself.
