Sunday January 9, 2022, Stéphane Bern spoke with great emotion to journalist Audrey Crespo-Mara in the show Seven to eight on TF1. The popular host, Mr. Heritage and specialist in crowned heads, gave candid confidences on his life.
During his portrait, Stéphane Bern notably spoke of his childhood, made of sometimes stinging memories in particular because of the extreme rigor imposed by his parents, his mother in mind. “My mother was brought up by a Prussian father. I can tell you it had to be perfection. My mother was a translator and interpreter, she spoke English, German, Russian and Italian perfectly. So you imagine, when I repeated my English or German lessons, I took full face. I haven’t known a day without taking a slap, I admit it. I was not a child martyr. I was beaten, when necessary. At the time, corporal punishment existed“, he confided.
Stéphane Bern, who is now living a beautiful love story with Yori, does not seem to blame his late mother more than that for what he experienced in childhood. “I loved my mother, however. You are in a very interesting psychoanalytic situation. You love your executioner. And at the same time, I never held it against her because she gave me a lot of love and tenderness too“, he added.
