The city of Nice (Alpes-Maritimes) has set up a rope system on five beaches on the Promenade des Anglais. An initiative aimed at seniors, to help them get out of the water safely.

Seniors in the city of Nice, in the Alpes-Maritimes, are invited to test the device. Getting out of the sea on the beaches of the Promenade des Anglais can sometimes seem insurmountable. For some, it is a real obstacle course. So the city has set up ropes to allow everyone to enjoy swimming. If the pebbles of the Promenade des Anglais are part of Nice’s heritage and the postcard, they attract as much as they frighten, because it is not always easy to get out of the water without a hitch.

“On the Promenade des Anglais, the slope is very steep. At 1 metre, 1.50 metres from the coast, you no longer have a foothold since the depth exceeds 2 metres. The slope is therefore very steep, especially with the pebbles and especially if you are a senior or not very sporty.”says Richard Chemla, Deputy Delegate for Ecological and Energy Transition, Health and Well-being. Seniors or people with disabilities can therefore also enjoy the joys of the beach. The system launched in 2022 now extends to five beaches on the Promenade des Anglais.
