A cat that disappeared in Montreal eight years ago has just been found… in Ottawa.

Indie, now 11, returned to her Montreal family after being found by a passerby in Ottawa last week. The Ottawa Humane Society and a microchip did the rest.

After years on the run and with memories of adventures that only she knows, the tuxedo cat has returned home to Montreal. But we still don’t know how Indie ended up in the federal capital, 165 km from home.

Stephen Smith, a spokesperson for the Ottawa Humane Society, said Indie was brought to them last week by a resident who found her wandering the streets of Gloucester, an Ottawa suburb.

The microchip implanted in the animal then allowed it to be linked to its Montreal owners, who found it four days ago during a moving scene.

Mr Smith said the happy reunion highlights the importance of microchipping pets, which makes such returns home more likely.
