Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris is rallying support from the entertainment and pop culture worlds, with everyone from Charli XCX to Katy Perry speaking out in her favor on social media. Barbra Streisand, John Legend and Janelle Monáe are among the myriad of cultural supporters who are generally Democrats, including George Clooney, Viola Davis, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Robert De Niro and Spike Lee.

And while mega star Beyoncé has not spoken publicly, she has, according to CNN, authorized the use of her song by Kamala Harris’ campaign. Freedomwhile she is known for keeping a very strict control over her music. Her mother, fashion designer Tina Knowles, quickly gave her official support to the vice president of the United States, in the wake of the shock announcement of the withdrawal of the candidacy of President Joe Biden.

At 59 and with her energy on the podium, Kamala Harris is giving a new lease of life to the Democratic campaign, which was mired in speculation about the health and mental acuity of the 81-year-old leader, especially since his disastrous debate against former president and Republican candidate Donald Trump on June 27, 2024.

Social media, where Joe Biden was mocked for his hesitant step and his sometimes haggard look, is now full of “remixes” of the vice president’s little phrases or the enthusiastic dances she sometimes performs, with trendy pop tunes sung by the summer star Charli XCX, but also Beyoncé, Taylor Swift and Chappell Roan.

Having gone viral, the “kamala IS brat” (sic) launched by Charli XCX was seized upon by the candidate’s campaign team, who changed the color of her banner on certain social networks to copy the green one from the album (Brat) of the British singer. Here is the democrat associated with the trend of “brat summer” (“brat summer”), in other words a big dose of party energy, against a backdrop of youthful anxiety.

In addition, singer Katy Perry, who supported Hillary Clinton’s 2016 campaign, also posted an X-rated montage of her latest single, “Woman’s World“, over images of Kamala Harris and her now famous phrase, which the candidate attributed to her mother: “Do you think you just fell out of a coconut tree?“The coconut tree is now a symbol of Harris’ campaign.

As for rapper Cardi B, she recalled on Instagram, with a video posted a few days earlier to support it, having “tells everyone that Kamala should have been the candidate of 2024″. The hip-hop star from the Bronx had indicated, when Joe Biden was still a candidate, that she would not vote. But she has not yet clearly said that being replaced by Kamala Harris changes her mind.
