Emmanuel Macron indicated on Tuesday, July 23, that he will not appoint a Prime Minister before mid-August. He brushed aside the candidacy of Lucie Castets from the New Popular Front.

On Thursday, July 24, Emmanuel Macron continued his visit to the Olympic sites with the beach volleyball court located in front of the Eiffel Tower in Paris. He thus observed the political truce that he requested from elected officials and stated that the government would wait until mid-August. Lucie Castets, candidate of the New Popular Front, will not be Prime Minister. “The question is not a name, the question is what majority can emerge in the Assembly so that a government of France can pass reforms, pass a budget and move the country forward”he commented.

The entire left had finally managed to rally around the name of Lucie Castets, an ENA graduate and financial director of Paris City Hall. Despite the head of state’s refusal, the matter is not closed for her. Lucie Castets claimed the position on the morning of Wednesday, July 24. “I am ready, we are ready, I now ask the President of the Republic to take responsibility”she said. For its part, the New Popular Front continues to exert pressure, while the president looks towards the Republican right, which still rejects any coalition.
