In an interview with France 2 and franceinfo, the head of state recalled that the communist deputy André Chassaigne had not obtained the presidency of the National Assembly against Yaël Braun-Pivet, the candidate of the presidential camp.

Emmanuel Macron hammered home, in an interview with France 2 and franceinfo on Tuesday July 23, that the New Popular Front had “no majority” in the National Assembly, de facto rejecting the left’s proposal to appoint its candidate, Lucie Castets, to Matignon. “The question is not a name. The question is what majority can emerge in the Assembly so that a government of France can pass reforms, pass a budget and move the country forward.”the president insisted.

To justify his remarks, Emmanuel Macron referred to the election of the president of the National Assembly on Thursday, won by the presidential candidate Yaël Braun-Pivet. The communist deputy André Chassaigne, representing the NFP, “did not have the majority in the third round”insisted the head of state, adding that the alliance of the left “had more votes” in the legislative elections, “but is one hundred votes short of an absolute majority”.
