An 18-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday July 23 in Gironde, as part of an investigation “in the head of a terrorist criminal association with a view to preparing one or more crimes against people”, France Télévisions and franceinfo learned from the National Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor’s Office (Pnat), confirming information from the Parisian. “Investigations are ongoing”adds the same source.

The suspect is “described as radicalized” and has “was detected by the DGSI through his messages on secure social networks in which he mentioned his desire to commit a violent action, particularly during the Olympic Games”. However, the Pnat remains cautious and points out that the investigations are only just beginning. The suspect may be questioned for four days by investigators. The latter will seek to find out whether his plan to carry out the act was successful and which targets he intended to attack.

On May 23, a 26-year-old man was also arrested in Gironde because he was planning “a violent action during the passage of the Olympic torch relay in Bordeaux”declared the Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin.
