Very popular among French people who do sports, and in particular bodybuilding, food supplements can be dangerous for health. Access to these supplements and their use are poorly regulated.

Every day, Owen Roverc’h does push-ups and pull-ups, with the added help of his food supplements. “Creatine is something that will allow muscle recovery, and also “boost” performance”he explains. But after a few months of use, he had to diet down because of side effects.

To compensate for the dehydration caused by creatine, he had to increase his water consumption. These capsules and powders are considered dangerous by the National Agency for Health Safety. In France, since 2016, 154 cases of adverse effects have been recorded, 20% of which were considered very serious. Two people have even died. However, nearly one in two French people consume them regularly. These products, available in pharmacies, stores or on the Internet, are poorly regulated.
