Diamond League | Alysha Newman wins silver in pole vault

(London) Canadian Alysha Newman won silver in the pole vault on Saturday at the Diamond League.



Newman, of Delaware, Ont., cleared 4.75 metres. Australia’s Nina Kennedy was the only one to do better, clearing 4.85 metres.

For its part, the Canadian quartet took fourth place in the men’s 4×100 meter relay.

The team of Eliezer Adjibi, Duan Asemota, Brendon Rodney and Jerome Blake covered the distance in 38.35 seconds.

Japan (38.07) won gold, ahead of Australia (38.31) and Great Britain (38.32).

In the 400-meter final, Ontario’s Christopher Morales took sixth place with a time of 44.90 seconds.

Noah Lyles

American Noah Lyles won the men’s 100 meters with a time of 9.81 seconds.

Lyles pulled away from his rivals in the final 50 metres. South Africa’s Akani Simbine took second in 9.86 seconds, while Botswana’s Letsile Tebogo completed the podium in 9.88.

The first five runners covered the distance in under 10 seconds.

The athletics events at the Paris Olympics will take place from 1er august.
