The rain didn’t stop Lando Norris. The Briton took his second pole position of the season at the Hungarian Grand Prix on Saturday 20 July, after qualifying was marked by some showers. Thanks to an excellent time set in the middle of Q3, the McLaren driver beat his teammate Oscar Piastri and Max Verstappen (Red Bull), who was unable to improve his time after a red flag was brought out for a crash by Yuki Tsunoda (Racing Bulls).

It should be noted that George Russell (Mercedes) did not do better than 17th, his single-seater not having enough fuel to make a new attempt. Sergio Pérez was also not successful by causing a first red flag for an accident in Q1. Enough to increase the pressure on the Mexican, whose seat at Red Bull is under threat. After this incident, the Alpine team missed out by keeping its two cars in the pits, while their competitors came out to do a new lap before the limit.

Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly will start 19th and 20th respectively on the grid on Sunday. “We made a big strategic mistake. There was no reason to take this risk, the team decided to do it…”Esteban Ocon got annoyed at the Canal+ microphone. Not kept on by his team, the Norman had said to himself “very confident” Friday to get a place in Formula 1 for 2025, during an interview with AFP.
