Auger-Aliassime loses to Berrettini in quarter-finals in Gstaad

Quebecer Félix Auger-Aliassime lost in the quarterfinals of the Gstaad Tennis Open in Switzerland, as Italian Matteo Berrettini defeated him 7-6 (7), 7-6 (2) on Friday.

Sixth-seeded Berrettini won for the fifth time in seven career duels against No. 3 Auger-Aliassime. This time, he needed 2 hours 10 minutes to finish off his rival.

In the next round, Berrettini will face top seed Stefanos Tsitsipas, who beat Italian Fabio Fognini 6-4, 6-3. The other semi-final will see German Jan-Lennard Struff take on Frenchman Quentin Halys.

Neither Auger-Aliassime nor Berrettini managed a break of serve during their duel. Both players did not even allow a break point to their rival during the second set.

Berrettini won the first five points of the tiebreaker in the second set and closed the books four points later, on his second match point.

Auger-Aliassime will now travel to Paris ahead of the Olympic Games. The draw for the clay-court event at Roland Garros is scheduled for July 25.
