An elegant young lady | Le Devoir

This pretty ladybug (a cousin of dragonflies) is called the splendid calopteryx. It is also a champion! It allowed Gustav Parenmark, a 17-year-old Swede, to win first place in an international insect photography competition. This competition is organized each year by the Royal Entomological Society, a scientific association based in London. Gustav Parenmark entered in the under-18 category. Three of his photos were selected. But it was his ladybug, delicately perched on a blade of grass, that the jury liked the most. “This species of ladybug is usually very nervous, but I went out at 4 a.m. when they are less active. It is easier to photograph,” explained Gustav.
