After the re-election of Yaël Braun-Pivet as President of the Assembly, the Macronists have a modest victory

By 13 votes, the outgoing president of the Assembly was therefore re-elected to the great displeasure of the NFP and the RN. On the side of the former majority, they are trying to learn lessons from this dissolution.

This is what is called “saving the furniture”. Yaël Braun-Pivet, Renaissance MP, returns to her perch eleven days after the legislative elections. The outgoing president of the Assembly was re-elected thanks to an agreement between the right and Macron’s party, which perhaps lays the foundations for a government coalition.

At the end of a day of high tension and suspense, which saw more than 500 journalists flock to the Palais Bourbon, Yaël Braun-Pivet was elected in the third round with 220 votes against the left-wing candidate André Chassaigne (PCF), 207 votes. A narrow victory, therefore, for the Macronist candidate, with only 13 votes more than the candidate of the New Popular Front.

The “central bloc” has therefore saved the furniture and wants to have the modest victory behind the smiles: “Delighted, relieved, but with a lot of humility and a lot of gravity and seriousness because the French expect a lot from us and we have to live up to it“, says Eléonore Caroit, Renaissance MP for French people abroad.

Maud Brégeon insists: humility and future compromise are the two lessons of these last days in the hemicycle. We must be very humble after this victory which is a victory of unity well beyond what is the Ensemble bloc! It is proof that today the moderate bloc has a majority in this National Assembly.“, says the Renaissance MP for Hauts-de-Seine.

The only condition: stay united, says for her part the MoDem deputy of Landes, Geneviève Darrieussecq, and former minister of Emmanuel Macron. That is why, with our political group, we did not want to scatter our energies and we supported Yaël Braun-Pivet from the first round. We had to show that we are grouped and that we are rallying behind her candidacy which in fact represents the central bloc of this assembly.“, she pleads. Before slipping: we must not forget that this new central bloc has shrunk considerably since the last legislature.
