Ukraine | At least three dead, including a child, in a Russian strike on a playground in Mykolaiv

(Kyiv) At least three people, including a child, were killed and five others were injured Friday in a Russian strike on a playground in the southern city of Mykolaiv, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said.

The Russian strike “hit a playground near a residential building. At this stage, there are five injured. Three people were killed […]including a child,” he lamented on Telegram.

The Ukrainian president, who once again denounced Russian “terror”, accompanied his statement with several photos showing a building with windows blown out on several floors.

At least one person was being evacuated on a stretcher and two others were lying on the ground, according to the images.

The Ukrainian president has been tirelessly demanding more air defense systems from his Western allies to intercept more of the many Russian missiles and drones that strike the country’s cities every day.

“New solutions are needed to support our defense,” insisted Mr. Zelensky, who is currently traveling in the United Kingdom.

The mayor of Mykolaiv, Oleksandr Senkevich, confirmed the provisional death toll of three in this Russian bombing, which hit “a residential area,” he said.

Mykolaiv, located just over 50 km from the Dnieper River, which forms the front line between the Ukrainian and Russian armies in this area, has been relatively spared from attacks by Moscow’s forces since Kyiv recaptured the large neighboring city of Kherson in November 2022.
