(New York) The retrial in New York for rape and sexual assault of former Hollywood producer and king of the arts Harvey Weinstein was tentatively set for November 12 by a judge on Friday, after the resounding overturning of his first conviction.
The judge in charge of the case, Curtis Farber, has indicated that he is prepared to bring forward the start of the trial as requested by the defense, and that a new procedural hearing will take place on September 12.
Physically diminished, Harvey Weinstein, who remains in custody due to a 2023 conviction to 16 years in prison in Los Angeles for other cases of rape and sexual assault, was pushed into the courtroom in a wheelchair.
Harvey Weinstein, 72, is due to be retried in New York in the fall, after an appeals court overturned his 2020 conviction in late April for the 2013 rape of actress Jessica Mann and the 2006 sexual assault of production assistant Mimi Haleyi. The reversal was seen as an affront and a step backwards for the #metoo movement against sexist violence against women.
Ahead of the new trial, Manhattan prosecutors said they were considering charging the former Miramax boss with other rape and sexual assault charges.
