A car crashed into the terrace of a café on Wednesday, July 17, in the 20th arrondissement of Paris. A few seconds later, passers-by came to the aid of the injured. At 7:30 p.m., while the terraces were crowded, a vehicle crashed into the tables. Despite the rapid arrival of emergency services, one person died and three injured people are in critical condition. The driver, aged 24, is unknown to the justice system. His police custody was lifted on Thursday and he was taken to a psychiatric hospital.
All night long, investigators carried out surveys to look for clues. According to the Paris prosecutor’s office, the act could have been intentional given the suspect’s statements. At the time of the events, many thought it was an attack. The police launched an appeal for witnesses. The investigation was reclassified as murder and attempted murder and was entrusted to the criminal brigade.
