The Fantasia festival opens today, after weeks of speculation about its financial health. The labor dispute between unionized employees and the event’s management culminated in a day of strike action last Thursday and the last-minute adoption of an agreement in principle on Tuesday.
The major genre cinema event opens this evening with the world premiere of the adventure comedy Bookwormby New Zealander Ant Timpson. In total, some 125 feature films and 200 short films are on the programme for the festival, which runs until 4 August.
