The deputy for Saint-Pierre and Miquelon, Stéphane Claireaux, was taken to task this Sunday, January 9 in front of his home, on the sidelines of a demonstration against the health pass. “He was violently assaulted and it’s a scandal”, reacted on franceinfo Annick Girardin, the Minister of the Sea. Stéphane Claireaux wanted “exchange, defend your point of view and it got out of hand”, she assures, claiming that “the aggressors are identified and prosecuted”.
Annick Girardin also asserts that “other elected representatives of the territory, in particular the president of the overseas delegation of the Senate Stéphane Artano, had that very morning called on three elected representatives of the territory to become reasonable, and to publicly declare to be against” what they qualify as “shame pass”. For the Minister, “We can clearly see that there is the responsibility of the organizers, of the elected officials. Everything is not excusable in politics.” Stéphane Artano condemned the acts against Stéphane Claireaux.
At the same time, the Minister of the Sea calls for calm: “We must return to something more tempered. Each time an elected representative of the Republic is attacked, democracy falters. We must all be vigilant in supporting all parliamentarians, who are facing the field and who are too often attacked “, she said, adding that she has “asked for better protection of our deputies”.
Many politicians, including the Minister for Overseas Sébastien Lecornu and the President of the National Assembly Richard Ferrand, have also condemned the assault on the deputy for Saint-Pierre and Miquelon Stéphane Claireaux.
I have just joined our colleague Stéphane Claireaux. I assured him of my personal support and of the solidarity of the National Assembly in the face of the intolerable aggression he suffered at his home while he was proposing dialogue. @AnnickGirardin @SebLecornu https://t.co/KgivONBoFL

An elected representative of the Republic lynched in front of his family home. Images of incredible violence, deeply shocking. No debate can justify this outburst. Full support for MP @sclaireaux. With @GDarmanin, we loaded the @ prefet975 to ensure its protection.
