Wednesday, July 17, “Le Larbin”, starring Kad Merad, Clovis Cornillac, and Isabelle Carré, is released in theaters. This family comedy tells the story of a father who makes his son believe that he has been teleported to 1702, during the reign of Louis XIV.

Louis is a spoiled brat. In his rich father’s hotels, he gets into many mischiefs. “He’s a father who messed up his education a bit”summarizes Kad Merad. To teach his son about life and good manners, he has the idea of sending him back to the time of Louis XIV. He hires an eccentric director and a swarm of actors to trap the young man in a reality TV-style masquerade.

Louis must have a very smelly job. “We made inquiries and the ‘piss valet’ existed, it was more often called a valet of ease”explains Alexandre Charlot, co-director of the film. “What is interesting is to (…) make this little king a valet who has the worst of functions”adds Franck Magnier, co-director. They are particularly inspired by Back to the future and some Visitors. Despite some overly recognizable plot twists, the film is served by excellent actors. We smile at this farce tailored for a family audience.
