From Provence to the Alps, today’s stage marks the return of the mountains. After the Pyrenees last weekend, the peloton returns to the mountains. The stage on Wednesday, July 17, between Saint-Paul-Trois-Châteaux (Drôme) and SuperDévoluy (Hautes-Alpes), is the first of four Alpine stages of this final week. It is a first opportunity for Jonas Vingegaard to make up his three-minute deficit on Tadej Pogacar, currently in the yellow jersey.
Attacks should be numerous in the three difficulties of the day, all placed in the last part of the race. The Bayard pass (6.8 km at 7.3%), of the second category, will be followed by the Noyer pass (7.5 km at 8.1%), of the first category. The arrival at the top of the SuperDévoluy station will also offer an opportunity for a final attack to clinch victory.
