CF Montreal acquires defender Dawid Bugaj

CF Montreal announced Tuesday that it has acquired full-back Dawid Bugaj from SPAL, an Italian Serie C club.

Bugaj signed a deal for the remainder of the 2024 season, the 2025 season, the 2026 season, plus two option years in 2027 and 2028.

“We are pleased to add Dawid to our roster,” said President and CEO Gabriel Gervais. “Despite his young age, he is already showing great defensive maturity. He is a high-potential player who gives us depth at right defense.”

Bugaj, who turned 20 on July 9, made his debut with Molde FK 2 in Norway before signing with SPAL in 2020. After three seasons with SPAL’s Academy, he was loaned to Lechia Gdańsk in the I Liga in July 2023. In 27 games for the Polish club, he recorded two assists in 1,755 minutes of play, helping his team finish the season in first place in the league and earn promotion to the Ekstraklasa for next season.

Bugaj, who holds dual Norwegian and Polish citizenship, has progressed through the U15, U16, U18 and U19 ranks with the Polish national team, taking part in the UEFA Men’s Under-19 Championship last summer, where he played in all of his country’s group stage matches against Portugal, Malta and Italy.
