More than a week after the results of the legislative elections, the left-wing parties of the New Popular Front have still not managed to agree on a candidate for the post of Prime Minister.

Laurence Tubiana was nominated for the post of Prime Minister by the Socialist Party, the Communists and the environmentalists. An economist, she defines herself as a woman of the left and an environmentalist. The former environmental advisor to Lionel Jospin established herself as a leading figure at the COP environment in 2015. At 73, she heads the European Climate Foundation.

However, she is not unanimous in the ranks of La France Insoumise. A little earlier on Monday July 15, the Insoumis had rejected the idea of a personality from civil society for the post of Prime Minister and had announced the suspension of discussions for Matignon until further notice. The name of Laurence Tubiana had circulated in the ranks of the presidential majority, notably to replace Nicolas Hulot as Minister of Ecology in 2018. But this had not come to fruition.
