The match was on paper anecdotal but the defeat is a stain. Hervé Renard’s Les Bleues lost on Tuesday July 16 to Ireland (3-1) on the last day of the qualifiers for the 2025 Women’s Euro. With a largely reworked team after its victory against Sweden (2-1) on Friday, synonymous with qualification for Euro 2025, Les Bleues were disappointed in Cork.

After a rather dull first half, the Irish, helped by a white-hot crowd, scored in quick succession thanks to Denise O’Sullivan and Julie-Ann Russell in the space of ten minutes. The group’s bottom team then held on despite Vicki Becho reducing the score before putting themselves in safety with a third goal at the end of the match by Anna Patten.

The Clover players thus sign their first victory in this qualifying phase after five defeats in as many matches. For the Blues, who finish this qualifying phase in first place, it will be necessary to quickly forget this defeat. In nine days, they begin the Olympic tournament against Colombia.
