Some people still have sore ears. And we’re not talking about Donald Trump. The American singer Ingrid Andress is, in spite of herself, causing a lot of talk in the United States. Tradition dictates that a local personality sings the American anthem, The Star-Spangled Bannerbefore every professional sporting event. The American country singer, currently on tour in the United States, was invited to sing the national anthem before the game between the Houston Astros and the Texas Rangers, called the “Home Run Derby”, in Arlington, Texas, a sort of “All Star Game” of American baseball.

Except that Internet users quickly mocked his performance. “Worst interpretation of history, they say here”reports on X the permanent correspondent of France Télévisions in Washington, Franck Genauzeau. Broken voice, false notes, long pauses, many remarks are flying on social networks: “My ears are bleeding”writes the author of an American blog, “It’s amazing how much she missed every note, it was painful”writes another user.

Aged 32, Ingrid Andress is originally from Michigan, in the northeastern United States. She began her career in 2014, co-writing songs. In 2019, her single More hearts than mine became a success, reaching number 30 on the Billboard Hot 100.

A song that earned her several Grammy nominations in 2021: for best song, best album and best new artist. In 2023, she was nominated again for best country group performance.

In 2018, it was the former singer of the Black Eyed Peas who was the target of mockery after her failed interpretation of the Star-Spangled Bannerbefore the NBA All-Star Game. The singer ended up apologizing, assuring that she had “does his best”. “I wanted to try something special, I like to take artistic risks, but this interpretation clearly did not produce the desired result,” she had then affirmed to an American media outlet… But now she is no doubt reassured: fans now affirm that Ingrid Andress’ vocal performance “outclassed” that of Fergie.
