The New Popular Front is struggling to agree on a name for Matignon. The Socialist Party has proposed Laurence Tubiana. LFI is opposed.

The left is still at an impasse on Tuesday, July 16. The day before, La France Insoumise suspended discussions on the formation of a government. For Jean-Luc Mélenchon’s party, Laurence Tubiana’s candidacy for the post of Prime Minister is unthinkable. “In a way, bringing back in through the window the Macronists who were chased out by the voters in the legislative elections, is a proposal that does not seem serious to me”said Manuel Bompard, LFI coordinator.

For the first secretary of the Socialist Party, Olivier Faure, Laurence Tubiana is on the contrary the ideal candidate. “It completely corresponds to what we have been wearing for a long time and since this campaign, particularly”he justified himself. La France Insoumise wants the discussions to now focus on the presidency of the National Assembly, before considering any formation of a government.
