CFL | Chris Jones no longer at the helm of the Edmonton Elks

(Edmonton) Chris Jones and the Elks have gone their separate ways, the Edmonton CFL club announced Monday regarding their current head coach and general manager.

Signed in December 2021, Jones went 8-33 with no wins and five losses this year.

The last four losses have been by three points, including during a visit by the Montreal Alouettes in June.

The Elks lost their opening game by eight points.

“Chris has worked hard over the past few years to improve the team and for that we thank him,” Elks CEO Rick LeLacheur said in a statement.

“We have certainly become better, but our environment is one focused on results, and victories have not become reality.”

Jones had previously coached the team in 2014 and 2015, including a Grey Cup victory in 2015.

Jarious Jackson, offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, has been named interim head coach.

The role of general manager has been entrusted to Geroy Simon on an interim basis.

The team’s next game will be Friday night in Ottawa.
