DAZN-beIN Sports offer ‘not a good thing’ for some supporters

The LFP has decided to opt for DAZN, a little-known broadcaster in France, and beIN Sports to broadcast Ligue 1 next season. A change viewed with suspicion by the supporters met in Paris.

Starting August 16, you will need to subscribe to the beIN Sports channel as well as the DAZN platform to follow the Ligue 1 championship in France. The decision was voted unanimously by the LFP on Sunday. Once again, you will have to multiply your subscriptions, much to the dismay of the supporters interviewed by franceinfo. “It is not a good thinglaments Arthur, It is important that French football is watched more on TV”but he fears that the public will boycott the matches.

The other concern among Arthur and his friends is the price of the two combined subscriptions. For now, beIN’s remains the same, 15 euros, but DAZN’s, which has not yet been made official, could reach around thirty euros according to several media outlets. “It’s too much”, the young men answer in chorus. For Arthur, it is very far from being profitable, while he already accumulates subscriptions to film and music platforms.

“When you see that there are subscriptions for the Premier League, the Bundesliga, the Spanish championship, Serie A, for around twenty euros, the possibility of paying 40 euros, just for Ligue 1, is too expensive.” Especially since, according to Alan, the report “price quality” is not interesting at all. The French championship “is not the best championship in the world”, he admits half-heartedly.

For his part, Sandro, sees the arrival of DAZN rather favorably. The British platform, nicknamed the “Netflix of sports”, has won its first major rights in France, and will offer sports other than football. “MMA, boxing, lists Sandro, of the disciplines that I follow, so I wouldn’t mind taking the subscriptionhe acknowledges, But if it had only been football, I wouldn’t have taken it.”

But it is not only the fans who are wary of this new offer. OL president John Textor has published a press release. He recalls that he campaigned for a single channel, which would broadcast 100% of the matches. Our fans [..] consume content in very different ways […]while DAZN and beIN have built traditional business models that will be obsolete by the time their proposed contracts expire”he wrote in his press release.
